Mr. Potter’s Weekly Update

Good Tuesday morning MCS friends and families.  Did anyone else get thrown off having an extra long weekend? We woke up thinking it was Monday, but left happy that it’s another short week! There is lots going on at MCS, and your chance to read all about it can be found in Mr. Potter’s weekly update. Click here for a direct link.

One of the many things you will find in this weeks update is an upcoming fundraiser happening on Friday, October 13th. MCS will be participating in a fundraiser for Heavenly Hats Foundation, which donates brand new head wear to cancer patients and hospitals through the United States. Since 2001, over 3,000,000 hats have been donated nationwide to patients of all ages. This year this fundraiser has a personal connection as we have a student and staff member currently battling cancer. So how does the fundraiser work? This Friday, students and staff are being asked to donate $1, or any amount they are able, for the ability to wear their favorite hat to school for the day. Please be sure to share with your friends of MCS to help spread the word on this fundraiser!

As a reminder, we will be holding our monthly PTA meeting tomorrow, Wednesday October 11 at 5pm. We will be discussing the Halloween Party, teacher requests, potential fundraisers and more. We’d love for you to join us! New faces and ideas are always welcome.

It’s almost Halloween after all!

Good evening MCS friends and families. In the past week or so, your student(s) may have talked about some visitors at our school of the 8 legged variety. These friends have been seen inside the building and along the exterior, and several have been quite large. While they are beneficial to the environment, and add a spooky decor for the upcoming holiday, they have become a distraction and causing fear among some of our students. As a result, the districts pest management folks will be coming to MCS to spray a pesticide along the school’s exterior.  This will be occurring this Friday, October 6th at 3 pm. As this is a pesticide, people should not be in direct contact with it, or inhale it during application. Once dried, within about an hour, the area is fine to use.  Luckily, this Friday happens to be a no school day due to a Teacher Workshop Day. Given that Monday is also a no school day due to the holiday, the area should be cleared and safe for staff and students. Please see the letter from Mr. Potter and note that a hard copy will be sent home with students tomorrow, Wednesday October 4.  If you have any questions or concerns, let us know how we can help, or please feel free to contact Mr. Potter.

New Pick Up Procedures

Good morning MCS friends and families. Please read and share this post with all your fellow MCS families/friends who pick up their children after school. Beginning TODAY, September 25th, there will be new procedures in place to create a more secure experience and so staff can be sure students are going home with the correct people.

Here is the official letter from Mr. Potter:

Here are the highlights:
Parents/guardians MUST enter through the gym only- DO NOT come through the front entrance.

Students will remain behind the staff on duty sitting on the narrow tables or standing behind them.

Students will point out their parent/guardian when the parent/guardian comes to the table. The student will come to the table, the parent/guardian will then sign in view of the duty staff. If your child is not ready, the parent/guardian must move to the back of the line. You can no longer pre-sign out your students.

Photo ID is required if the staff does not recognize you.

Kindergarten students will be picked up first. If you have a child in grades 1-3 you will need to move to the back and rejoin the line when those students arrive in the gym.

Please note, the process will continue to be reviewed and adjusted as necessary. For any further questions or comments, please feel free to email Mr. Potter.
