Good Tuesday morning MCS families and friends! Hope you are enjoying this fall weather we have been happening. As we transition to a new month, there are lots of exciting things happening at MCS. Click here to read through Mr. Potter’s weekly update. Please note there are several important dates in the update including the upcoming four day weekend (NO SCHOOL on Friday Oct. 6 or Monday Oct. 9th).
Also we’d like to include a reminder that you can send your student a Birthday Gram, new this year! Complete the form, place in an envelope marked PTA Birthday Gram, and return it to school. We will then deliver a Happy Birthday Spirit Stick to your student on their birthday! Does your kiddo have a summer birthday? That’s ok, we can deliver their Birthday Gram on their half birthday, or any designated day that you would like to celebrate.
Lastly, the MCS PTA has two events coming up this month. Join us for our monthly meeting on October 11, 2017 at 5pm. We will be meeting in the staff room, and we are working to have childcare available, although kids are always welcome to come! At the end of the month, we will be hosting our annual Halloween Party. Save the date- October 26, 2017. As this is our most popular event, we hold it in two sessions. Session 1 is 5:30-6:30 and is for students and their families in grade K & 2. Session 2 is from 7:00-8:00 and is for students and their families in grades 1 & 3. Please note, if you have a students in multiple grades, you can choose one session to attend together to make it easier to enjoy the event. Keep a watch out for our event flyer coming soon. If you have offered to help with the Halloween Party, we will be in contact with you soon with the volunteer opportunities you can sign up to help with. Haven’t sign up to help with events yet, please fill out the Volunteer Opportunities Form and return it to the school. Your help is what makes these events successful!
Good morning MCS friends and families. Please read and share this post with all your fellow MCS families/friends who pick up their children after school. Beginning TODAY, September 25th, there will be new procedures in place to create a more secure experience and so staff can be sure students are going home with the correct people.
Here is the official letter from Mr. Potter:
Here are the highlights:
Parents/guardians MUST enter through the gym only- DO NOT come through the front entrance.
Students will remain behind the staff on duty sitting on the narrow tables or standing behind them.
Students will point out their parent/guardian when the parent/guardian comes to the table. The student will come to the table, the parent/guardian will then sign in view of the duty staff. If your child is not ready, the parent/guardian must move to the back of the line. You can no longer pre-sign out your students.
Photo ID is required if the staff does not recognize you.
Kindergarten students will be picked up first. If you have a child in grades 1-3 you will need to move to the back and rejoin the line when those students arrive in the gym.
Please note, the process will continue to be reviewed and adjusted as necessary. For any further questions or comments, please feel free to email Mr. Potter.
Good Monday MCS families!
Can you believe February is just a couple days away? Does it seem like this year has been flying by to anyone else? As February approaches, so does the potential for more snow and colder temperatures. Remember to dress your kiddos in layers, and in particular snow pants, hats, mittens/gloves.
Mr. Potter’s Weekly Update has lots of great information. Reminder that Fridays in February will be Spirit Days. This coming Friday, February 3rd is “Wear your favorite sports team” day. Students are encouraged to wear shirts, hats, sweaters etc. showing off their favorite sports team.
An important part of the PTA is being advocates for our students and school, and sometimes for the PTA itself. There will be public hearing on a new bill sponsored in part by our own Rep. Anne-Marie Mastraccio, that would make all PTAs in Maine tax exempt. If you can’t make it to the hearings this Wednesday, please feel free to email or call our representatives to show support for this bill.
Thanks again to all the families that joined us for our first family movie night, we had over 100 people in our gym/cafeteria to enjoy The Secret Life of Pets! If you went to the movie night, we’d love your feedback. What did you like, what would you change, any thoughts or ideas are welcome! Just leave us a comment here, message us on Facebook, or send an email to email@example.com Watch for flyers and more information on our next movie night which will be occurring in March.

A friendly reminder- dress your kiddos in layers, with hats, gloves/mittens, snow pants, and boots as the temperatures have been brutal in the morning, but change during the day. Kiddos will go outside unless the temperature is under 18 degrees.
Another friendly reminder- we have our monthly PTA meeting this Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5-6:30. Childcare will be available! We’d love for anyone to come here what we have been up to and what we are working on. Also, if you are interested in an officer position, become a member now. In order to be qualified for a position, you must be a PTA member for 2 months. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page in the coming weeks for the roles and responsibilities of the officer positions as well as committee opportunities.
Do you think we will have a snow day tomorrow? How about a delay? It seems even the meteorologists aren’t quite sure yet how much snow we will be getting in our neck of the woods.
Since there is the possibility of enough snow to cause some type closure, make sure you are signed up to receive instant alert messages from Superintendent Mr. Theoharides. To learn how to set this up, or to check where you have signed up to receive these alerts visit this page on the school’s website.
Also- refresh yourself with the policy for school closings and where else you may find the information. Mr. Theoharides put out a letter on the schools website identifying the several ways you can find out whether there is a delay or cancellation of school throughout the season. Click here to read the letter.
Along with the areas noted by Mr. Theoharides, remember to check our Facebook page also as we will post the information as well. Have a great Sunday evening!
Happy Monday everyone! Are you enjoying the snow? If you had to go out this morning, I hope you made it safely, the roads were a bit slick.
For your reading pleasure- here is Mr. Potter’s weekly update mcs-weekly-update-12-5-16-1.

Scholastic books will donate a book for each pair of pajamas donated! All pajamas collected will stay local. A collection box is in the lobby near the office.
Good Monday morning all! How is November half over? It’s amazing how quickly the year is flying by.
Click here for Mr. Potter’s weekly update. Some of the highlights- The MCS PTA will be holding a Cereal Drive to support the Sanford Backpack Program. The backpack program provides backpacks filled with non-perishable, easy to prepare (kid friendly) food on Fridays each week to students that would otherwise go hungry over the weekend. Cereal is on of the least donated items, so we are hoping to help fill the shelves! The cereal drive runs through the end of November.
If you participated in the school’s fundraiser in October, orders have arrived. Please make plans to come into school beginning Tuesday, November 15 to pick up your items. You may also pick them up during Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday. Thanks to all how participated!
Good Monday evening MCS families!
Reminder that this is a short week due to no school in observance of Veteran’s Day on Friday. Also this week- MCS will hold its annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony beginning at 9am on Wednesday, November 9th. Wednesday also brings this month’s PTA meeting; join us at 5pm in the staff room to hear about upcoming events, proposed projects, and to vote on teacher requests for field trips and equipment.

Here is Mr. Potter’s weekly note for 10/31/16. Of note, the students and staff raised $180.00 for the Heavenly Hats foundation a couple weeks ago. Way to go MCS! That money will be used by the Heavenly Hats Foundation to donate brand new hats/headwear to cancer patients and hospitals throughout the country.
Also- friendly reminder, this weekend is the end of Daylight Savings Time so remember to turn back the clocks.
Have a great week everyone!
